DyCM, Speaker defaulters of J&K Bank: Lone

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Feb 7: National Conference MLA and former Legislative Assembly Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone today alleged that Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta were defaulters of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
He made the charge during Zero hour in the Assembly after the Speaker rejected half-an-hour discussion notice on Jammu and Kashmir Bank given by him.
The Speaker ruled that the House didn’t have jurisdiction over Jammu and Kashmir Bank and, therefore, he was rejecting his motion.
Lone, however, said that there should be a debate on whether the Assembly had jurisdiction over Jammu and Kashmir Bank or not.
Lone said he has the list of defaulters with him which include names of the Deputy Chief Minister and the Speaker.
Lone then staged a walk-out in the Assembly in protest against the rejection of the notice of discussion on working of Jammu and Kashmir Bank moved by him.
Speaking to reporters outside, Lone reiterated his allegations saying he has information that some big names connected with the Government have turned defaulters of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
He said he wanted to discuss the issue of NPAs of the Bank as it involved public money and he can’t allow it to be looted by some influential persons.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, when approached for comments, clarified that it was a “routine matter”, which has been blown out of proportion by the MLA.
“This shows the National Conference has no issue to raise in the Assembly. They have become issueless and that is why they are raising baseless and personal issues,” Dr Singh said and added that anyone can take loan from the Bank.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta also said that it was a “non-issue”.
