JAMMU, Apr 26:  Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said that it is imperative to honor the martyrs who have laid down their lives for safeguarding the country’s integrity.
He said it imbibes a sense of patriotism and linkage to one’s country besides also instilling the urge to stand up for one’s country especially in the times of need.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a function organized by War Memorial Committee Samba and Dogra Sadar Sabha at Veer Bhoomi Park in Samba today.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga, Vice Chairman OBC Board, Rashpaul Verma, MLA, Devender Manyal, State BJP Vice President and incharge Samba, Mamta Singh, President Dogra Sadar Sabha, Gulchain Singh Charak, senior officers of administration and prominent persons of the area were present.
Dr Singh said it is imperative that the contribution of the martyrs especially those belonging to the belt and armed forces should be effectively propagated among the masses especially the younger generation as it would go a long way in instilling the sense of patriotism in them.
He said that patriotism and love towards one’s country is the most sacred feeling as well as the duty of every citizen and the onus lies on us to ensure that it is properly propagated among the younger generation and the posterity.
Dr Singh while paying tributes to martyrs of Samba district said that till date 180 brave men from the area have sacrificed their lives for the nation and it would be remembered in the annals of history. He said these brave hearts of Jammu have set an example for the youth to hold the interest of country supreme and contribute in making India one of the leading nations of the globe.
Referring to the developmental initiatives taken in the Samba district, the Deputy Chief Minister said that an amount of Rs 120 cr has already been announced for upgradation and construction of roads in the district, besides the indoor stadium Samba is also coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 4 cr and an auditorium will also be constructed in the district.
Dr Singh also announced an amount of Rs 50 lakh for the newly incorporated Mandies in the Municipal Committee Samba.
The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga also spoke on occasion and paid glowing tributes to the martyrs who have laid down their lives while safeguarding the nation.
The Deputy Chief Minister and the Minister for Industries also paid homage to the martyrs at the Veer Bhoomi Park Samba.
