JAMMU, Feb 11: The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today lauded the services of security forces and police in effectively dealing with different challenges and defending the country.
Dr Singh was addressing the closing ceremony of 66th B N Mullick Memorial All India Police Football Championship here at Jammu University today.
The function began with a colourful march past of 37 participating teams led by dare and devil team of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Deputy Chief Minister while thanking the players and officials from different parts of the country said that their presence in the playing field together was a notable example of unity in diversity.
While paying tributes to B N Mullick, Dr Singh said that he served the people when the country was going through a transitional phase.
Later, Dr Singh and other dignitaries distributed trophies and mementoes among the participating teams and the officials and also released the souvenir of the championship.
The 11-day football tournament saw a total of 84 matches played by players of 37 teams and 120 officials from all over the country.
Director General of Police, Dr SP Vaid, in his welcome address, lauded the efforts of the organizing committee for making elaborate arrangements for the teams and the staff.
Dr A.K Verma, Additional Director I.B, ADGP Armed A.K Choudhary, Chairperson PWWA, representative from All India Police Sports Control Board, senior police officials and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, in the final, BSF defeated Punjab Police via tie-breaker by four goals to three to lift the title trophy.
The players of both the teams showed extraordinary soccer skills and gave tough fight to each other. Finally, the match was decided via tie-breaker, wherein BSF emerged winner.
From BSF, the goals scorers were Kamal, Gurpreet, Vishal and MD Asif, while Bunty missed to hit the target. And from Punjab Police, Jatinder Singh, Harshdeep and Amandeep netted the goals, while Sarabjeet and Gurtej failed to score the goals.
68 matches were played in the Championship in the league phase and 228 goals were scored in this round, while 16 matches were played in knockout stage and 46 goals were scored in this round.
The total number of matches played in the Championship were 84, while the total number of goals scored were 274.
Rajbir Singh of Punjab Police emerged the highest goal scorer in the Championship, pelting 6 goals, while the only hat-trick of the Championship was scored by Laliakhlu of Mizoram Police.
VK Singh, Special DG Police Headquarters was the chief guest during the match.
