NEW DELHI, Mar 16: Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today called on Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Radha Mohan Singh at his residence and discussed the establishment of Krishi Vighyan Kendra (KVK) in Gurez tehsil of Bandipora district.
The meeting lasted for half an hour during which Deputy Speaker apprised Union Minister about the need to establish KVK in Zanskar valley of Kargil and Gurez.
The Union Minister assured Gurezi about the establishment of KVK at these places.
The Minister also ensured Deputy Speaker that he would raise the issue with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and   soon send a team of ICAR to Gurez and Zanaskar valley to carry out the experimentation for growing suitable crops.
It was informed that expert team has already visited Zanaskar valley for inspection but the same is yet to be done in Gurez.
Deputy Speaker said that Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology has specially recommended KVK for Gurez and Zanaskar in view of the soil quality and topographical conditions.
