Dy Excise Commissioner caught red handed taking bribe of Rs 2 lakh

JAMMU, Dec 21: Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu today caught red handed Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Syed Muried Hussain Shah while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 2,00,000 from the complainant Col HDS Rainal (Retd) for clearing the file of renewal of wine shop license.
An official spokesman said that a complaint was lodged by Col HDS Rainal (Retd) in the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu regarding demand of Rs 2,00,000 for clearing the file of renewal of license of wine shop by the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Syed Muried Hussain Shah.

It was stated by the complainant that his family had a business in the name of Dalip Singh Wine Shop at Narwal and the license was pending since May 2018 in the Excise Department. It was further stated that his father had expired and his mother being blind, he was made to run from pillar to post for the renewal of the license since the last eight months.
He was being victimised and harassed by Syed Muried Hussain Shah, who demanded an amount of Rs 2 lakh as bribe for clearing the file. As the complainant and his family was already facing huge financial losses and mental torture because of the unreasonable demand of bribe, the complainant, under compulsion and to avoid any further losses was going to pay the amount of bribe to the Deputy Excise Commissioner but before that he came to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu with a request that necessary action against the officer may be taken.
On the basis of the complaint, prima facie case of criminal misconduct on the part of the Deputy Excise Commissioner was found made out. Accordingly, a formal case FIR No. 42/2018 under Section 5(1) (d) read with Section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 4-A of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Police Station Anti Corruption Bureau Jammu and investigation was entrusted to Inspector Vikram Sharma.
A trap team of the officers/officials was constituted by SSP Anti Corruption Bureau Jammu which laid a successful trap and apprehended the accused Syed Muried Hussain Shah, son of Naseeb Shah of House No 3 Green Colony, Upper Paloura, Jammu presently posted as Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), red handed, while demanding and accepting the illegal gratification of Rs 2,00,000 from the complainant in presence of the independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot and thereafter, a team of Anti-Corruption Bureau was also dispatched for conducting the search of the residence of the accused which was going on till the filing of this report.
Further investigation into the matter has also been taken up.
