DSS projects burning issues of Jammu before Governor

JAMMU, Dec 11: A delegation of Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) led by their president and former minister Th  Gulchain Singh Charak, called on  Governor  N N Vohra at Raj Bhawan here today and discussed with him several burning issues of Jammu.
During the meeting, Charak expressed his dismay over the inaction by the Government regarding various important issues of Jammu region projected earlier.
The delegation put forth before the Governor  issues related to Jammu Fest, restoration of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, preservation of archives, nonpayment of annuity to gallant warriors and their widows, pending land acquisition cases for Fauji Colonies, double taxation, eroding entity of Lamberdar/ Chowkidars besides the problems of border areas due to ceasefire violations, closure of educational institutes and  drug menace .
The delegation highlighted  the difficulties being faced by Jammuiets due  to barricading the road in front of winter secretariat and its bad impact on Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, tourism, trade and the daily commuters to temples, hospitals and the difficulties faced by people carrying  the dead bodies  to Jogi Gate for cremation.
Charak also highlighted the problems of the Lamberdars and Chowkidars and miseries of the population living along LoC and International Border. “The drug mafias in connivance with influential locals are ruling the roost, he alleged and appealed the Governor to save the young generation from going astray.
The Governor gave a patient hearing and assured of suitable action. He was quite aware of the issues regarding Lamberdars and Chowkidars and appreciated the necessity to strengthen these grass root democratic institutions. He also agreed to chase up action on the restoration of Mubarak Mandi complex and shared the concern about the archives and the old documents.  He also agreed to press the release of annuity to the gallant warriors/ war widows and pursue to save the double taxation at Lakhanpur. The Governor was receptive to all projected points and assured his full support to resolve these issues.
The delegation comprised of Col  Karan Singh (Retd.),  G A  Khawaya,  Janak Khajuria, Brig  M S  Jamwal (Retd.), Col  Dr Virendra Kumar Sahi (Retd.),  Gambhir Dev Singh Charak,  Sayed Amanat Ali Shah, Dr  Raghubir Singh,   Swaran Singh and  Vidya Sagar Sharma.
