DSS observes annual ‘Save Water, Save Birds’ initiative

JAMMU, May 5: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) observed the annual ‘Save Water, Save Birds’ initiative at the Dogra Bhawan and the adjoining Zanana Park in collaboration with State Forest Department.
The initiative that was started six years back by this 114 years old secular Dogra organization devoted to the cause of secular brotherhood in the Dogra region.
As a very welcome thaw to the all-round tense conditions and warm climate this event came as a welcome change displaying the age-old Dogriyat when the prominent members of the civil society representing all walks of life were seen together in their traditional mutual love and brotherhood across any communal, linguistic or regional differences under the banner of DSS.
The event involved exchange of views on nature preservation and care of flora-fauna.
President DSS Gulchain Singh Charak distributed thousands of earthen ‘hang-pots’ to be hung on the trees and other places in homes, schools and offices and filled with water regularly.
Many prominent citizens along from educational institutions, teaching fraternity, army veterans, officers from the Sate Forest Department, philanthropists and students joined in the noble effort and humane cause.
Anjli Sharma, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu, Colonel Karan Singh Jamwal, Prem Sagar Gupta, Brigadier MS Jamwal, Colonel Virendra K Sahi, Kulbir Singh, Amanat Ali Shah, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Chhankar Singh, Swarn Singh, Harpal Singh Jasrotia, Sohail Kazmi and Madan Rangila addressed the gathering.
Former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak requested participants in large numbers to keep the ‘hang pots’ filled up and placed conveniently for the birds to quench their thirst in free from fear surroundings. He also called upon people to save precious potable water and adopt rain water harvesting for use in non-drinking activities.
The children drawn from various institutions like Dogra HSS, Rich Harvest, Humanity Public School, Alexander Memorial, Ranbir Higher Secondary School, GHS Dogra Hall, Joyti Academy, Luthra Academy, Lawrence Public School, GSS Mubarak Mandi, SP Smart, Model Academy, SD Tarapuri and Oriental Academy participated in the event.
