Drugs trafficker arrested with heroin worth Rs 5 lakh

JAMMU, Jan 8: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ launched by SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta arrested a drugs trafficker and recovered 50 grams of heroin worth Rs 5 lakh from his possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka at Digiana and asked a pedestrian, who was hiding himself from the cops, to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the pedestrian escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the pedestrian after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 50 grams of heroin worth Rs 5 lakh from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Amarjeet Singh alias Jeetu, son of Sohan Singh, a resident of Belicharana, Satwari.
During questioning, the accused disclosed that he had procured the consignment from Punjab for selling among the youth in Jammu and surrounding areas. With his arrest, police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 1/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
