Drugs trafficker arrested with 70 kgs poppy straw

RAMBAN, Oct 20: Banihal police arrested a drugs trafficker along with 70 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka at Nagbal area and intercepted a Nissan car bearing registration number PB07R-2705.
Through checking, police recovered 70 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested one person, who has been identified as Abid Ahmed Sofi, son of Gul Mohammad Sofi of Khanabal District Anantnag.
During preliminary enquiry, it came to fore that the arrested accused is a habitual drug trafficker and was booked by Qazigund police. The accused was carrying the consignment from Kashmir to Punjab, but got arrested by the Banihal police.
A case under FIR Number 163/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aijaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Dheeraj Singh Katoch, Additional SP Ramban Mushtaq Chowdhary and SSP Ramban Mohan Lal.
