Drugs smuggling racket busted, 2 arrested with cannabis

KISHTWAR, Dec 1: Police busted drugs smuggling racket with the arrest of two persons and recovery of 1.200 kilograms of cannabis.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Kishtwar Police Station headed by SHO Police Station Kishtwar Inspector Sameer Jillani under the supervision of DySP Nihar Ranjan intercepted two pedestrians, who were passing suspicious gestures.
During search, police recovered 1.200 kilograms of cannabis from their possession and arrested them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, son of Abdul Karim and Mohammad Ayaz, son of Lasa Lone, both resident of village Tatani Saroor, tehsil Drabshalla, district Kishtwar.
A case under FIR Number 254/17 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation started.
SSP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary has said that the duo used to purchase and transport the drug consignments from their local areas and sell the same to the youth in Thathri and Kishtwar towns. In the last few years the drug peddlers have spread their tentacles in various areas and were hell bent to spoil the youth, SSP added.
Chowdhary informed that the district police have registered more than ten FIRs in drugs cases in the past two and a half months and police will continue its drive against the drug peddlers till the menace ends from the district.
