Drug peddler arrested with 5 kgs poppy straw

UDHAMPUR, June 9: Continuing its drive against narcotics smuggling, police arrested a drug peddler along with 5 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Udhampur Police Station laid a naka near Forest Office on Chungi Link road and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking, as he was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police recovered 5 kilograms of poppy straw from the bag being carried by the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Rahul Sharma, son of Hans Raj of Pakhlai, district Udhampur.
A case under FIR Number 254/18 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Udhampur Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
Police team led by SHO Udhampur Inspector Vijay Choudhary made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kulbir Handa and Incharge SSP Udhampur Faisal Qureshi.
