Drug merchant denied bail for trying to pollute atmosphere in Kargil

JAMMU, Sept 5: Principal District and Sessions Judge Kargil, Tahir Khurshid Rana has rejected the bail application of drug merchant for attempting to contaminate the drug-free atmosphere in Kargil district.
According to the police case, on August 12, 2013, Kargil Police Station arrested a tanker driver along with a bag containing contraband (poppy). The driver namely Gurdeep Singh was smuggling the contraband from Jammu and Srinagar to Kargil/Leh for its selling and disbursing among the people of his taste.
Accordingly, police booked tanker driver under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
However, the accused moved a bail application in the court, which was resisted by the Prosecution, which submitted that in a span of just one week three vehicles carrying contraband were seized and this has acted as shock wave for the administration as well as society as such incidents have the tendencies to contaminate the drug-free atmosphere in the district.
After hearing both the sides, Principal District and Sessions Judge observed, “there is no doubt that society is under severe threat from drug abuse and trafficking of contraband”, adding “youth of the nation, which is a great asset to the country, are speedily getting exposed to illicit trafficking of contraband and its usage”.
Stating that every conscious citizen of the country has to raise his voice against this menace and curb it to its hilt, Principal District and Sessions Judge said, “courts of the country are under the bounden and legal duty to give a strong message to the society particularly when such issues come before it”.
With these observations, the Court rejected the bail application of accused.
