Drug consignment from PoK seized, 2 held

SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Police today said that it have seized drug consignment that had come from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and arrested two accused in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
A police official said that police in Sheeri area of Baramulla district apprehended two drug smugglers Mudasir Ahmad War and Muhammad Amin Sheikh and recovered one kilogram combined quantity of heroin and brown sugar from their possession.
“As per the initial investigation, this consignment of drug had come from Pakistan occupied Kashmir through Teetwal area of Line of Control (LoC). A case has been registered under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. The investigation of the case is underway and more arrests are likely,” he said.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that poppy straw and straw powder was recovered from the house of a drug peddler. “Acting on specific information about the drug peddler, the police raided house of Fayaz Ahmad Shergojire of Taragam village of Dooru in Anantnag district,” he said.
During the search, police recovered 12 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.5 kilograms of straw powder from Fayaz’s house. “The accused Fayaz Ahmad Shergojri fled away from the spot and is absconding. A manhunt has been launched to nab him,” the spokesman said, adding that in this regard, a case under FIR number 119/2017 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in and further investigation is going on.
