JAMMU, Oct 15: Alleging harassment, the drivers of the oil tankers and LPG carrying trucks held protest against Traffic Police here today.
A large number of drivers of oil tankers and LPG carrying trucks assembled outside oil depot at Rail Head here and held protest under the banner of All J&K Oil Tanker Drivers Union. They raised slogans against the Traffic Police cops for their dictatorial attitude towards the drivers on road.
While speaking, Ranjeet Singh Raina, President of the Union said that oil tankers and LPG carrying trucks left for Srinagar and Ladakh around one week back, but they have not reached their respective destinations due to harassment of the traffic police cops on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“The drivers of these vehicles are being forced to stop after every 20 kilometers by the traffic police cops”, he said, adding that the places where these vehicles are kept stranded by the traffic cops have no facility of food, drinking water viz washrooms.
Raina warned the traffic cops to stop harassing the drivers, otherwise they will be forced to stop the supply of oil and LPG cylinders in the coming time.
Earlier in the day, Union Members Harasis Singh, Devinder Singh and Sohan Singh also protested outside the oil depot at Rail Head here and stopped the oil products for sometime.
Later, the Union Members submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner for redressal to their issue.
