PULWAMA, Dec 19:  Police today said that they have solved the murder case of a woman whose body was recovered from Nowgam in Srinagar outskirts last evening and  triggered protests at her native village of Wanpora in Pulwama.
While presenting the accused, Zahoor Ahmad before media this afternoon, Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, Tejinder Singh said that the accused has confessed that he killed Muneera Akhter after abduction.
Muneera, who was working in a private company at Wukhoo in Kakapora, was waiting for a bus to return home when suddenly Zahoor came on the road driving a tipper and called her name loudly and offered her lift.
Singh said that the accused had not revealed to them how he killed her and are expecting further details once they receive the autopsy report.
The SP said that Zahoor’s intention might have changed once the woman got into his tipper and he might have tried to sexually assault her which she might have resisted.
He said Muneera might have succumbed while protecting herself from getting assaulted.
“The case was blind. We launched an investigation and started questioning various tipper drivers of Kakapora area and during the questioning Zahoor came on police radar, who confessed after police interrogation that he had killed Muneera,” said Singh, adding that police registered a case under Section 363 of RPC and 302 of CrPC after recovering her dead body.
Police suspects that the accused driver might have strangulated Muneera to death and then desecrated her body. “The accused dragged her body out of the vehicle and then buried her near a water body in Nowgam,” he said.
The parents of Munnera, who was missing from November 26, had filed a complaint in police station Kakapora.
Residents of the area today protested against the murder and demanded punishment to the murderer. The area observed shut down against the murder.
