JAMMU, Sept 17: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today chaired a high level meeting to review the development scenario in Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi districts.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh, Minister of State for Transport (Independent charge), Revenue, Public Works (Roads & Buildings), Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of State for Planning, Ajay Nanda, concerned MLAs, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, M K Bhandari and concerned Deputy Commissioners besides senior functionaries of various departments.
The Union Minister had a detailed review of the status and progress of various mega development projects being executed in the districts. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the progress on these vital works to ensure their timely completion.
He asked the Div Com to evolve an effective mechanism for regular monitoring and follow up of all ongoing development works. He also exhorted upon them to hold periodic review meetings with all the stake holders to meet the purpose behind launch of these projects envisaging improvement in living standards of people.
The Union Minister asked the officials to adopt a pragmatic approach to overcome impediments, if any, in smooth execution of development and welfare programmes. He asked the Deputy Commissioners to identify any financial or technical barrier causing delay in development works so that the same could be rectified at the appropriate time for larger interest of the society.
The meeting also had a review of physical and financial status of works being done under MPLADS, PMGSY and related development projects including water supply schemes.
Emphasizing on optimum utilization of available resources, the Union Minister exhorted upon the concerned officers to gear up their men and machinery to meet the work requirements thus satiating people’s aspirations.
MLAs projected various issues pertaining to upgradation of roads, electricity supply, health, education, water supply and other basic amenities in their respective constituencies seeking an early redressal to the same.
The Union Minister asked the officers to prioritize the redressal of issues related to basic amenities so that the people may not suffer on this account.
He said that Kendriya Vidyalaya will be built in where it was committed earlier and also sought status on indoor stadiums allotted to every district.
Other projects including sewerage treatment plants, solid waste management and rural development schemes were also discussed in the meeting.
