NEW DELHI, Oct 23: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh hosted a media get-together over lunch here today, which was attended by prominent Delhi based TV anchors and reporters, representatives from print media as well as veterans including Frank Noronha, M J Akbar and others.
Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister, Shrikant Sharma, head of BJP National Media Cell and BJP National Spokespersons also attended the event.
This was a part of the regular routine, followed by Dr. Jitendra Singh, of holding quarterly luncheon meetings with Delhi based media persons.
The informal interaction, lasting over three hours, offered an opportunity for free frank discussion on wide range of current topics of national importance and the inputs available about these in different sections of the media.
Media persons from different electronic channels and print newspapers offered their inside assessment of the situation in Jammu & Kashmir in the wake of the three month long current turmoil. They also offered their observations about the public response about governance in the State.
Arun Jaitley provided an update on the follow-up on GST Bill. He also gave his assessment of his recent overseas tour and interaction with financial experts and policy makers in different countries. Having returned after addressing Investors meet at Indore yesterday, he provided some valuable cues about the status of the industry in the country and its future growth.
Dr Jitendra Singh shared his experience of the brain-storming interaction on Kashmir during the day long media conclave organised in New Delhi yesterday. He also offered his inputs regarding the situation along the International Border in J&K and informed about his plan to undertake a two day tour from tomorrow to the State of Manipur which is scheduled to go to polls shortly.
The media persons also dwelt on a number of diverse issues including the Samajwadi Party feud in UP, the BCCI court case and the emerging contours of Indo-Pakistan relations.
They profusely appreciated Dr Jitendra Singh for having initiated the practice of regular informal luncheon interactions with media persons.
