AGARTALA (TRIPURA), Mar 9: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh has assured full support from the Ministry of DoNER to the new State Government of Tripura.
Soon after being sworn as the Chief Minister here today, Biplab Kumar Deb thanked Dr Jitendra Singh for his constant support in the past and said that the new Government has great expectations from the Ministry of DoNER to help in rebuilding Tripura and for launching new development projects as well as giving impetus to the existing projects.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accords high priority to Northeast and Tripura is a especially in need to be put on a fast-track development mode because it seems to have lagged behind in many ways, in comparison to other States in the region.
Referring to the first-ever train to Bangladesh from here, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that work is in progress on the construction of DoNER funded railway track from Agartala to Akhaura. The first meeting of the newly constituted NITI Aayog Forum for Northeast will also be held at Agartala next month, he disclosed.
Meanwhile, Dr Jitendra Singh also met the outgoing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and thanked him for the wise inputs received from him as Chief Minister during the meetings of North Eastern Council (NEC) and other occasions.
Earlier in the day, Biplab Kumar Deb and his Council of Ministers took oath of office at a glittering ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of different States, DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, several Union Ministers, senior office bearers from BJP Central and State leadership. The oath ceremony was witnessed by a mammoth public gathering at the Assam Rifles ground.
