Dr Iffat’s book on skin tumours hits stands

SRINAGAR, Sept 5: Dr (Professor) Iffat Hassan Shah’ s book on skin tumours “Clinical synopsis and colour atlas of Skin Tumours” hits stands today. The book has been co-authored by Dr Peerzada Sajad Ahmad also a Dermatologist presently serving as Medical Officer J&K Health Services.
Dr Iffat Hassan Shah, who is presently Head of the Department, Postgraduate Department of Dermatology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Leprosy at Govt. Medical College Srinagar/SMHS Hospital said the book has been written to make comphrehension of skin tumors easy. The foreword of this book has been written by Dr( Professor) Sanjeev Handa from the Deptt. of Dermatology,Venereology& Leprology,Postgraduate Department of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh and has been published by Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers(P)Ltd.
A tumor is defined as an abnormal mass of tissue the growth of which exceeds and is uncoordinated with that of normal tissue.Skin tumors develop because of proliferation of a single or multiple components of skin.Based on their primary origin ,they can be divided into Keratinocytic,Melanocytic,Appendageal and Soft tissue tumors. The skin tumors are broadly classified into benign tumours, premalignant skin lesions and malignant skin tumors.
She claims that the book is one of the first of its kind on skin tumors and attempts at imparting knowledge and perception of various skin tumours through a multitude of photographs and also presenting information and advice about skin tumors that is easy to implement in day to day practice. This book has been written in a straight forward and lucid language and aims at helping the postgraduate students in dermatology, practicing dermatologists, interns and all other healthcare professionals who are interested in getting themselves acquainted with the clinical presentation of different skin tumors.
According to Professor Iffat “early diagnosis and treatment of skin tumours leads to a definite reduction in the morbidity and mortality associated with skin tumors”.
