KATRA, Feb 14: Dr Ramesh Ganju from The Ohio State University delivered a special lecture on   “Novel inflammatory circuits modulating breast tumor microenvironment” in the Department of Biotechnology, SMVDU.
Dr Ganju is Scott Endowed Professor and Vice- Chair Department of Pathology & Experimental Pathology in The Ohio State University, USA. He is an expert in the field of tumor microenvironment as is evident from his vast number of publications in highly reputed journals. The major focus of Dr  Ganju’s lab is to determine the role of chemokines, especially CXCL12, and various inflammatory molecules, such as S100A7, and anti-inflammatory molecules, such as Slit2 and cannabinoids, in pathogenesis of various diseases.
The lecture of Dr  Ramesh Ganju was attended by faculty and  scholars of Department of Biotechnology. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, a cancer biologist & Assistant Professor invited him to visit the institute and present a special lecture.
Dr  V  Verma, HOD Biotechnology laid stress on the special lectures which are important in rising the level of science in the department.
Dr Ramesh Ganjoo  visited various labs in the department and  was very much impressed by the infrastructure and  instrumentation in the department. He also had a brief interaction with the lab members of Dr  Rakesh Kumar and was made aware about the activities going on in the cancer biology Lab. He also expressed his interest in developing joint Indo-US collaborative projects and  also to explore the possibility of exchange of scholars under different schemes of both Governments of India and USA. Dr  Ganju also met Vice Chancellor of SMVDU,  Dr  Sanjeev Jain in his chamber where he was felicitated by presenting him with a memento of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi as a token of appreciation for visiting the University. Dr. Sanjeev Jain proposed that collaboration between the two institutes should be explored and  reiterated that SMVDU will take necessary steps regarding that in future with a mission to make SMVDU a world class institute.
