JAMMU, Oct 1: An awareness lecture on “How to stay Healthy beyond 50” was delivered by a renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Director, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Fortis Escort Heart Institute, Dr Ajay Kaul at Jammu University, here today.
The lecture was organized by the Human Genetic Research cum Counselling Centre in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, JU.
Delivering lecture on the Management of Cardiovascular diseases, Dr Ajay Kaul stressed on bringing down the incidence of heart diseases. He dwelt upon the risk factors associated with the cardio vascular diseases and role of life style, exercises and regular check up as preventive measures for the heart attacks.
Dr Kaul also enlightened the audience regarding the types of heart attacks, their symptoms and management. He further said that there are many advances in the treatment of heart problem but our main focus should be on preventive aspects so that the problem can be brought down.
He made the audience aware about the different technical initiatives undertaken in the Fortis Hospital such as Robotic Heart Surgery and Artificial Heart Transplantation.
Speaking on the occasion, JU Vice Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar said that lifestyle modifications are the need of the hour and people should be made aware of the specific risk factors like smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes, triggering heart diseases. He also stressed upon the regular check ups.
Earlier, Prof. Kuldeep Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences formally introduced Dr Ajay Koul to the audience.
Prof. Roopma Gandotra, HOD Zoology, Dr Parvinder Kumar, Principal Investigator and Prof Pankaj Shrivastva, Dean Student Welfare were the organizers of the function.
Among others present in the function include Jai Kumar, Special Secretary to VC, Prof. Desh Bandhu, Director, CDC, Prof Vijay Dev Singh, Director DDE, Prof J S Tara faculty members, officials, research scholars and students of different departments.
