DPR initiated for Sudhmahadev-Khelani road, tunnel: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Oct 18: In yet another developmental milestone for Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, the work on Detailed Project Report (DPR) was initiated today for the construction of the new landmark, road and tunnel project on the “Sudhmahadev-Goha-Khelani” section. The DPR is expected to be complete in the next three months, following which the execution of the work will begin.
Disclosing this here today after a briefing by the officials of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh informed that Delhi-based Consultancy Firm “Rodic Consultants Pvt. Ltd.” has been allotted the contract for preparation of DPR.
During the briefing, the NHIDCL officials informed the Minister that the hallmark of this project would be a tunnel connecting Sudhmahadev area in the West to Goha-Khelani in the East. The survey work on this is already at an advanced stage, they said.
Apart from the existing road, a new Highway will also be constructed to connect the proposed Sudhmahadev tunnel to National Highway (NH), 244 near Khelani. In the process, the villages located in the vicinity will also get connectivity to the National Highway at designated junctions.
Meanwhile, the existing Goha-Khelani road will also be upgraded and constructed with concrete, which will have the capacity to last for over 30 years.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the construction of the new Highway and upgradation of the existing road will provide a major boost to the infrastructure as well as social and economic development of the entire region. This will also contribute to revenue generation and job creation, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh discussed the project in detail with the NHIDCL officials and impressed upon them to put it on a fast-track.
