Srinagar, Dec 5: At least a dozen houses were gutted in a massive blaze in Old City area of summer capital here.
Reports said fire erupted in congested Sheikh Colony locality of Dewar Hawal here. The fire, which was caused due to a short circuit, started from a house and then engulfed nearby residential structures.
Soon after blaze raged, over a dozen fire tenders rushed to the spot from various fire stations of the city. After several hours of efforts, the fire was finally brought under control but not before gutting of 12 houses.
Officials of Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department said that they faced severe problems in reaching the blaze spot due to narrow lanes and by-lanes. Police said that they are assessing the quantum of damage.
