Dorjay discusses issues of LAHDCs

JAMMU, Feb 3: A meeting to discuss important amendments in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act, 1997 was convened here today under the chairmanship of Chering Dorjay, Minister for Ladakh Affairs & Cooperatives.
Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, Mohammad Ismail and Tsering Angdus, Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil and Gyal P Wangyal, Councilor, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Councilor and Mohammad Nasir, Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh attended the meeting.
The meeting called for evolving a mechanism to strengthen two Autonomous Hill Development Councils so that hassle-free development activities are carried forward in the twin desert districts. LAHDCs of both the districts have more or less common problems which need amendments in the Act and empower the respective Councils to take some urgent decisions at their own level which involve betterment of the local population, the meeting was told
Dorjay while assuring Government’s all out support to both the LAHDCs, emphasized that formal proposals need to be submitted to the Government through the respective Councils. The Ladakh Affairs Department will take a view and wherever felt necessary, amendments in the Act governing the working of the Councils could be given accorded consideration.
