JAMMU, Jan 30: A full grown deer was killed by the dogs of Bakerwals, just closer to the Manda Wild Life Park, near J&K High Court during early morning today.
The morning walkers were stunned by seeing the deer lying just closer to the fencing of Manda Wild Life Park near the morning walk track, leading to Lohar Water Supply point. This track passes through High Court complex. There are two temporary habilitations of nomads (Bakerwals) just closer to the Manda Wild Life Park. They are putting up there   during winter months for the last few years with the permission of  Divisional Forest authorities.
During early morning, their dogs attacked a full grown deer and then started eating. As the morning walkers started arriving there, the dogs stayed away but kept roaming around their prey. The morning walkers then contacted DFO Jammu and Regional Wild Life Warden  and narrated the matter.
Later, the team reached there and they warned the nomads and asked them to keep their dogs in control. The nomads however, claimed that leopard had attacked and killed the animal. About half a dozen  morning walkers who  rang up Excelsior office told that it was clearly act of dogs and poor animal was attacked during morning hours. They said three dogs were found roaming and eating deer. Had leopard attacked deer, it would have taken it away and fully eaten.
Chief Wild Life Warden, J&K Deepak Khanna said that Wild Life officials rushed there after receiving  information in the morning and they shifted the spotted deer for postmortem. He said that Department has initiated action in this regard.
