JAMMU, Feb 27: Two times Sahitya Akademi awardee and renowned Dogri writer, Krishan Sharma has now won the Translation Prize of the Sahitya Akademi for Dogri, for the year 2016.
Krishan Sharma has been awarded for his translated book of short stories, originally written by the world famous Hindi writer Nirmal Verma, under the heading; `Kavve Aur Kala Pani’.
The prize carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and an inscribed copper plaque. The declaration for the prestigious awards in 24 Indian languages was made at New Delhi in a meeting of the Sahitya Akademi.
Sharma has translated hundreds of Dogri articles into the national language Hindi and these articles have been published in the established magazines and dailies of national repute. He had also been conferred with the prestigious `Sauhard- Samman’ from the Uttar Pradesh Government for Dogri, for the year 2014.
Besides Sahitya Akademi’s main award in 2005, Sharma was honoured with the Bal Sahitya Puraskar in the year 2013 by the said Akademi. He was also conferred with the J&K Cultural Academy’s Award during the year 2005 for his collection of short stories in Dogri.
