Doctors, nurses protest manhandling by patient’s attendants in CD Hospital

JAMMU, July 23: Doctors and nurses of Chest & Diseases Hospital today staged a peaceful protest in hospital promises demanding action against some attendants of a patient who allegedly manhandled a doctor and some nurses of the hospital yesterday.
Butta Singh (58), a critically ill patient from RS Pura, who was suffering from bilateral extensive disease and respiratory failure, died at the hospital last evening following which some of his attendants allegedly assaulted a doctor and some nurses, besides smashing a window screen and damaging the hospital property.
Expressing their resentment over the issue, the doctors and paramedical staff, including nurses of the hospital this morning staged a peaceful demonstration in the hospital premises against the hospital administration for its failure to provide secure working atmosphere to them.

They raised slogans against the hospital administration and demanded security, besides registration of FIR against the accused attendants. The protest continued for about two to three hours and was suspended only after Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina, and senior police official reached the spot and assured them of providing proper security and strict action against the accused attendants.
A police official said an FIR against accused attendants was registered in connection but no one was arrested so far.
Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent, CD Hospital, Jammu, said that all the doctors and staff have resumed their routine duties after assurance of the GMC Principal, who without doing any delay has also provided six security personnel to the hospital on the demand of the doctors and paramedical staff.
