DMK patriarch laid to rest

An impressive, glorious and historical chapter in Dravidian politics in Tamil Nadu state came to conclusion with passing away of one of its tallest leaders, DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi. He was 94 and had been active in politics for over five decades. His mentors   Periyar and Annaduria were the  notable trend setters of the Dravidian movement  to which Karunanidhi gave a new twist with his socio- economic policies aiming at uplifting of the poor and the marginalized in the society.
He carries the unique distinction of having been Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for as many as   five terms and never having lost an election even contesting from his choicest seat anywhere in Tamil Nadu. He was strong votary for promoting Tamil language only in which he is credited with writing prose and poetry and had been writing for films also.
Nearly a lac of people participated in his funeral procession. However, with his death as also with the demise of another Tamil political stalwart J. Jayalilatha, a void in Tamil politics has taken place.
