Div Com reviews progress of Waste Management Plan for Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Feb 7: The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today convened a meeting to review the plan for implementation of waste management in Srinagar city to be undertaken by the BASIX Municipal Waste Ventures Ltd. (BMWV), a national non-Government enterprise involved in integrated solid waste management services.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone who has also the charge of Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and a team from BMWV represented by Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat and other concerned.
The BMWV, having voluntarily offered itself for waste management, including collection and segregation, in five wards of the Srinagar city, informed the Div Com about the proposed plan for waste management and said that it is ready to start from Ward 32, where its entire related preparations stand completed.
The Div Com was also informed that some 130 workers would be employed for the purpose who will be trained in segregation of waste during the course.
On the occasion, the Divisional commissioner directed the SMC to immediately provide logistical support, including machinery, to the BMWV, and asked them to start its activities in Ward 32.
He also sought the status of ladies toilets in public places in the city and directed to ensure that such facilities are made available wherever required and that identification signs are put up in order that ladies toilets are not misused.
