JAMMU, June 29: The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal today reviewed implementation of Swachh Vidyalaya programme in Jammu division through video conference with the concerned Deputy Commissioners.
The Div Com received detailed status of completed under-completion, dysfunctional, new and previously sanctioned toilet units for the educational institutions under Swacha Vidyalaya programme.
Senior functionaries of Education, PHE and Power Development Department were also present at the video conference.
Dr. Kotwal directed the District Development Commi-ssioners to hold district- level meetings of Water Sanitation Committees to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation in educational institutions.
The Divisional Commissioner stressed on making water Sanitation a regular feature in school curricular activities to bring a behavioral change among the children. He said that clean environment including functional toilets in schools is important for the children as they can become ambassadors of cleanliness and motivate others to keep their homes and surroundings clean. He also asked the officers concerned to adopt innovative measures to improve water sanitation in schools and organize school health programmes regularly.
Based on the available data, Mr Kotwal noted that all districts of Jammu division are already close to achieving the hundred percent target under the Swachh Vidyalaya programme. He directed concerned officers to personally monitor these works so that bottlenecks, if any, in the full implementation of the “Swachh Vidyalaya” initiative can be removed expeditiously.
The Divisional Commissi-oner asked all the Deputy Commissioners to conduct District Water Sanitation Committee meetings on regular basis and also visit Primary Health Centres in their respective districts to supervise the sanitation in these health institutions.
