JAMMU, Dec 21: In its bid to enhance enrolment coverage under National Population Register (NPR), Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal today flagged off two buses  which will not only spread the word about the registration process but also undertake photo-biometric enrolment of left-out citizens on the go.
Additional Registrar General India (Citizen Registration) , S. K. Chakravarty, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Sushma Chauhan, Special Secretary IT  were also present on the occasion.
Appreciating the efforts of the Census Department for carrying out the massive enrolment drive in the State, Mr. Kotwal said that this is a unique initiative carried out by the department for reaching out to the last person in the State. He also expressed hope that the 100 percent enrolment would be completed at an earliest so that the benefits under various Government schemes are directly transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries.
He also asked the respective Deputy Commissioners to identify the areas where the services of these buses could be utilized besides making people aware regarding the facilities being provided so that people get themselves enrolled for Aadhar seeding. He also said that this exercise would help the administration to identify the left out population so that whole process is  completed at an earliest in the state .
Additional Registrar General (Citizen Registeration) India, S. K. Chakravarty said that buses have been branded with NPR themes and will cover various areas for collection of photo-biometric data. The vehicles are equipped with all the facilities along with kits for collection of information. Each bus will have two operators with as many kits. These will also aim at creating  awareness among the public towards National Population Register.
He also said that biometric enrolment process is going on in about 302 biometric enrolment centres at every tehsil level across the State and huge rush of residents is being witnessed in these permanent enrolment centres for getting their NPR-Aadhar number which is required for availing the benefits of various schemes of the Government.
Joint Director, Census J&K, C. S. Sapru while briefing about the enrolment drive which is underway in the State informed that about 8000 enumerators have been pressed into service for carrying out house to house survey which will continue till January 15, 2016 and so far about 82 lac biometric enrolments have been completed in the State.
