Div Com inspects sewerage projects in Jammu city

JAMMU, July 11: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma today conducted an extensive tour of Jammu city and inspected the pace of work on upcoming sewerage treatment projects and preparedness of concerned departments for monsoon season.
Divisional Commissioner visited Belicharana, Krishna Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar and other places along with Joint Commissioner JMC, Rashpal Singh, Superintendent Engineer UEED, S S Rana and other officers.
During the visit, he also interacted with the shopkeepers and traders at Krishna Nagar and listened to their grievances. The shopkeepers informed the Div Com that they are facing immense problem due to   delay in the construction work of the Nallah in the area, which overflows during rain and the water enter in their shops.
Responding to the issues raised by the shopkeepers, the Div Com asked the executing agency to expedite the work and complete the same at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Div Com inspected pace of work on sewage treatment plants at Bhagwati Nagar and Belicharana.
At Bhagwati Nagar, the Div Com asked for cleaning up of the old dumping ground and developing the area into green zone by plantation of trees and landscaping. He asked for involvement of Tourism and Horticulture Departments to develop the area as another tourist attraction spot of Jammu city.
Div Com stressed on early completion of the sewage and drainage projects to stop further pollution of Tawi. He urged various agencies to co-ordinate and include all the left-out areas of the city into the maze of sewage and drainage lines.
Highlighting the social and cultural significance of the river Tawi, he surmised that all these projects will lead to restoration and rejuvenation of the splendor of river.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner chaired a meeting to review land acquisition for public projects in Jammu and Samba districts.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, DC Samba Sushma Chauhan (through video conference), ACR Jammu, SDMs, and Collectors besides concerned officers.
The Div Com assessed the progress being made on land acquisition cases for projects including Ring Road, PMGSY, Seema Bhawan, border fencing, Jammu – Akhnoor four lane project and many alike.
Stressing on close coordination among the concerned departments and the district administration, the Div Com asked for taking a realistic assessment of the issues related to land acquisition and disbursement of compensation to the owners. He directed for preparation of payment calendar with date of disbursement.
The Div Com asked DC Jammu to monitor the disbursement of compensation for Jammu Ring Road on weekly basis and hold camps to motivate the people to cooperate in land acquisition process.
He set one month deadline for completion of mutations in Samba district and submit the report to his office. He further asked them to organize camps and hold special drives for the attestation of the remaining mutations.
The meeting also discussed issues regarding utility shifting on which the Div Com directed the concerned functionaries to prepare a specified report. He asked them to take up the shifting work as per Govt orders and prepare a protocol with timeline for uniformity.
The Div Com asked the DCs to prioritize the land compensation disbursement in Border areas.
Meanwhile, the Div Com asked the concerned officers to approach the NHAI for construction of parks and sanitation units on vacant Govt land along the National Highway. He further instructed them to identify the vacant Govt land and utilize it purposefully and construct ponds and install hand pumps on Govt and common land in water stress areas.
