KATHUA, Dec 6: The irate residents of Hiranagar border area held a demonstration at college road, here, today and protested against the district administration, Kathua, police and criminals who attacked Sarpanch of border village Ganyadi in Hiranagar tehsil on November 28.

The protesters in large number including the women raised slogans in favour of their demands. They demanded the innocent youth arrested by police in Chadwal protest and police lathicharge case be released immediately. They also demanded the implementation of PSA against the accused Gujjar Makhan Din responsible for brutal attack on Sarpanch Rakesh Choudhary of Ganyadi and demarcation of State land encroached by the Gujjars.
Among the protesters Anil Singh, BJP district president, Prem Nath Dogra, Karan Kumar of VHP and Bajrang Dal leader Bishan Bharti, Capt (retd) Gian Singh Pathania, Bharat Bhushan Border Union , Thuru Ram father of Sarpanch Rakesh Choudhry and large number of prominent citizens and leaders of various political and social organization also joined the protest and widely condemned the attitude of Police in handling the matter.
Following the situation, the security was tightened at DC Office and large number of Police personnel deployed at DC Office to defuse any odd situation.
To defuse the situation later the district administration along with police officers started discussion with leaders of protestors to solve the issue amicably and minimize the tension grown up in both the communities. The Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria and SSP Kathua, Suleman Choudhary who reached the dharna site assured the people that administration will solve their most of demands. He said that the leaders of both the groups are in touch with administration and approaching them for justice. The Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria announced publicly that the arrested youth from both the communities will be released, all cases against both parties will be withdrawn , demarcation of disputed State land will be done and it will be fully fenced. Besides, entire portion of State land in the village will be converted into a mango farm.
He assured the people that justice will be given to everyone. He appealed the people of both the communities to live in peace and harmony. The protesters accepted the proposal of District administration and withdrew the dharna.
It may be recalled that the tension prevailed in the village after a Gujjar, Makhan Din attacked on Sarpanch, Rakesh Choudhry of village Ganyadi. The villagers protested against the police and demanded the arrest of accused. Police failed to arrest absconding Gujjar despite the passing of three days, the people marched to National Highway at Chadwal and blocked the Highway. The police resorted to lathicharge on the protesters and seven person including SHO Rajbagh Sarbjit Singh were injured in it. The police arrested two innocent person Tara Chand and Ghar Singh charging them for attacking police.
The border residents today again protested in large numbers demanding the release of innocent youth arrested by police and stern legal action against the Gujjar. The matter was however defused with the active intervention of prominent citizen and social organization.
