Director SKIMS, Convener INTACH, HIC delegation call on Governor

JAMMU, Feb 2: Dr. A.G. Ahangar, Director Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here.
Dr. Ahangar briefed the Governor about the functioning of the various specialties in the institute. He discussed the plans for its future growth particularly the infrastructural development.
Recalling the erstwhile outstanding reputation of the institute, the Governor advised Dr. Ahangar to attract the best talent, upgrade teaching and research and ensure against any indiscipline among staff, students or the faculty. In this context, Governor observed that he was continuing to receive complaints about infringement of the restriction on private practice, which must not be allowed under any circumstances.
Saleem Beg, State Convener of the Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) also called on Governor.
Beg briefed the Governor about various conservation and management initiatives being undertaken by the INTACH for preserving the cultural heritage of the State including promotion of the crafts heritage of the local communities.
Governor appreciated Beg’s efforts in generating awareness among the people of the need to respect and preserve culture and heritage of the State.
A 6 member delegation of ‘Haq Insaaf Council’, led by its President Zeshan Syed raised several demands before the Governor which included: engaging Pir Panjaal region’s youth in the dialogue and peace building processes; raising adequate infrastructure for making Jammu University’s Poonch Campus functional; establishing colleges for women for Rajouri and Poonch districts; inclusion of Gojri and Pahari languages in the syllabus from Primary to Secondary level; establishment of Gojri and Pahari Research Centres; introducing simple procedures for financial assistance to start businesses; establishment of Agriculture and Horticulture University in Pir Panjaal region; promotion of the tourism potential of the region; effective functioning of the transparency and accountability institutions in the State; provision of good quality sports infrastructure in the region; complete ban on alcohol use and curb on drug abuse; four laning of Natinal Highway from Bufliaz to Rajouri and Jammu to Poonch; rail services for the region; participation of youth in cross LoC trade at Chakkan-Da-Bagh; sanctioning of micro-hydel power projects in the region.
