JAMMU, Dec 3: J&K Hand-icapped Welfare Association (JKHWA) and J&K Handicapped Association (JKHA) today held a protest here near Press Club demanding the Social Welfare Department to fulfill their demands. While speaking on the occasion, Abdul Rashid Bhat, president, JKHA, said that it is a matter of great sorrow and displeasure that despite directions issued by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor NN Vohra, Social Welfare Department is ignoring their genuine demands of handicapped people.
Expressing grave concern over the delaying tactics of Social Welfare Department in fulfilling the demands of the handicapped people, RS Manhas, president, JKHWA, gave a deadline of 72 hours to the State Government for fulfilling their demands after which both the associations will sit on chain hunger strike.

The demands of the handicapped people are enhancement of reservation quota, advertisement of backlog posts from 1998 to till date, free education to disabled children as well as children of disabled persons, concession in electricity and water taxes, implementation of various schemes like IAY, PMGSY, PMAY and MGNREGA, clear cut transfer policy for physically handicapped employees.
Their other burning demands are enhancement in pension quotas of all categories, allotment of funds for cases pending from 2009 to till date, implementation of bus fare concession order issued by the Government, issuance of multipurpose I-Card to disable persons and provision of BPL ration card to disabled persons.
