DGP reviews welfare schemes for cops, martyrs’ families

JAMMU, Feb 16: Grappling with the daunting task of welfare, Jammu and Kashmir Police has embarked upon a massive programme to enhance living standards of serving police personnel and families of martyrs.
Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid, in a meeting at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today, while dwelling on the existing welfare initiatives, said that betterment of serving personnel, besides rehabilitation of martyrs’  families has been top on the organization’s agenda and a beginning has already been made at PHQ to enhance their living and working standards, which include better accommodation, basic amenities, better equipment to enhance the quality of service and  quick remedy of hardships.
Reiterating his commitment to work for ameliorating the lot of police families, Dr. Vaid said that the organization has been working in other fields to generate new ideas and introduce new welfare initiatives, creating a good atmosphere in the organization. He said that responsibilities of JKP have increased manifold and we have to focus on upgrading the professional capabilities of our jawans and officers.
Dr. Vaid, keen to ensure the welfare of the police families, said that several measures are taken to benefit the families of police martyrs which include providing quality education to their children with impetus on modern academics based on information technology. He hoped that these measures would enable the children and the families of police personnel to attain academic excellence besides facing the challenges of the present day world with more vigorous and confidence.
He sought reports with regard to the implementation of schemes which are in force. He asked the officers to make the policies more transparent and come up with comprehensive suggestions to introduce more welfare scheme for the benefit of personnel.
Besides district and range police officers, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, VK Singh and Dilbag Singh, IGPs, SJM Gillani, AG Mir, MS Salaria, Yoginder Koul, Alok Puri, Dr.SD Singh, Danesh Rana, SL Sharma, Jagjit Kumar, SA Watali, MA Ganai, JP Singh, Surinder Kumar Gupta and Johny William.
