DGP rejects Sinha’s remarks on police

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Sept 22: Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, today described the remarks of former Governor of the State Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha about the Jammu and Kashmir police asbaseless.
Lt Gen Sinha had said yesterday that half of the police force of Jammu and Kashmir State was militant sympathizer.
The police chief while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Indoor Sports Stadium here said that Sinha’s statement is not based on facts. “Jammu and Kashmir Police is an entirely dedicated and committed force”, he added.
Prasad while rejecting Sinha’s statement said it is beyond imagination to accept the statement on Jammu and Kashmir police.
The DGP, however, said that there can be isolated cases of such people in any force and that it would be wrong to make sweeping remarks about the force that has been in the forefront of fighting militancy in the State.
Sinha had made his remarks about the Jammu and Kashmir police while addressing a lecture on “Kashmir: Genesis and Solutions” at Mangalayatan University in Aligarh. In his remarks, he had stated that the State police has 50 percent militant sympathisers and Government should take note of this ground reality.
