JAMMU, Jan 28: Observing that continuous initiatives are needed to bring all round improvement in the functioning of state police, Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid, underscored the need for visible change in day-to-day police functioning at grass root level.
Dr. Vaid was speaking at the senior police officers meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. He said that in 21st centaury we have to work together and bring visible changes in our attitude, besides moulding the force on modern lines. All ranks of JKP, despite professional hazards, have to take coordinated efforts for providing better service to the people.
Attitudinal change at Thana level would also change the perception about the men in khaki among the minds of people, who’s good will is a valuable and dependable asset to improve our performance on different accounts, he added.
DGP emphasised that police formations need to be rejuvenated for which a spirit of public service should be inculcated among the cops. This would also help in isolating the elements, who create wedge, as the people will be willing partners in maintaining conducive atmosphere in the State, he added.
Dr. Vaid said that the performance of “men in khaki” should be of highest standards at every front of policing. Being the first responder, people come to police to get their problems redressed and it is our duty to give a patient hearing to their grievances by providing undeterred assistance. Jawans and officers working in the field are supposed to give respect to the visiting people and lessen their problems politely, said Dr. Vaid.
DGP stressed for community policing, saying that Jammu and Kashmir Police has faced tough situations during the past more than 27 years and with the cooperation of the people, the force have succeeded in tackling such situations effectively.
On the occasion, ADGP (Headquarter), V. K. Singh, stressed upon the officers to work for the betterment of force, enhancing basic amenities for the jawans working on ground. He said that the police men are working in hostile weather conditions and need better living facilities. Supervisory officers should visit their areas of jurisdiction and interact with the personnel deployed.
He disclosed that PHQ has chalked out a comprehensive plan to raise the basic facilities for the cops deployed in the field. He said that sufficient funds have been made available to meet out the expenses on the subject.
