JAMMU, Mar 11: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid today asked the officers to come up with a long term perspective planning in order to bring modernization in our working. He said that every member of the organization has a responsibility to contribute at his level for enhancing professional capabilities in public service.
Dr. Vaid was interacting with the officers and scientist of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at meeting held at FSL Headquarters here this afternoon. He said that FSL has an important role in connecting the criminals with the crime so that they could be brought to justice.
He said that forensic science has attained more importance in the present times to crack the culprits and provide justice to the innocents. He said that modernization of FSL is also imperative to improve the functioning of laboratories and utilize the capabilities of scientists. He asked the officers to take advantage of modern equipments and technology to confront the latest strategy used by the criminals. He asked for a holistic plan to fully equip the laboratories in order to meet the challenges.
DGP said that crime detection and control is a major responsibility of JKP, besides other areas of policing and state FSL is doing a commendable job in the investigation field. The wing has to improve its efficiencies to strengthen the investigation methods by adapting modern techniques and using latest equipments for crime control and detection.
He said that modernization of JKP in all areas of policing is a continuous process and we are focussing to bring Forensic Laboratories at par with the advanced laboratories of the country, having full-fledged infrastructure. He said that PHQ has been providing all required assistance to make Forensic Laboratories well equipped and reliable to provide every assistance to the agencies in bringing the culprits to justice.
Earlier, Director FSL, Jatinder Singh apprised the DGP about the working of Forensic Laboratories in the State. He said that during the two months of this year FSL received 432 cases for expert opinion, out of which 334 have already been disposed off. He informed that two new divisions viz DNA profiling and Cyber Crime has been created which would be made functional soon.
On the occasion, Senior Scientific Officer, Dr. RK Hangloo gave a detailed power point presentation about the present status of FSL and future requirements of the wing.
DGP was accompanied by IGPs, SL Sharma, JP Singh and Surinder Gupta, Director Prosecution, Pawan Gupta, AIGPs, JA Koul, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, Mubassir Latifi, Sameer Rekhi and Kulbir Singh, Sr. ADO, Nasir Khan and DD(B), Munish Dutta.
