KATRA, May 26: The Annual District Level Inter School tournament phase-2 of District Reasi, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) concluded today at Shrine Board’s Sports Complex, here today.
Sheikh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General Youth Services & Sports was the chief guest on the valedictory function and distributed prizes among the winners on the occasion.
In Under-14 Basketball final, MS Kundurorian defeated Mix Primary School 4-0, while in Under-17, TPHS Katra won by 10-9 in a close contest against DPS Kikryal.
The chief guest on the request of Director Sports SMVDSB assured that some state level tournament will be allotted to the Shrine Boards Sports Complex. He also declared that all participants of the tournament will be provided with the track suits by the Department of Youth Services & Sports.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports SMVDSB presented welcome address and asked the students to actively participate in the summer coaching camps commencing from June 2, 2018.
Dr Swarn Singh District Youth Services & Sports Officer Reasi presented a brief account of Sports activities organized at Sports Complex Katra prior to the State Level events.
He thanked DG Sports and all the officers of the Shrine Board particularly the team of technical experts of SMVDSB Sports Complex and district Reasi.
“Sports is the only medium which can lead to a person towards healthcare, personality development and becoming perfect citizen,” added Dr Swarn Singh.
Dr Arvind Karwani, Deputy CEO SMVDSB also spoke on the occasion.
The competitions in Basketball were conducted by Kartar Singh, Jagdev Singh, Ashok Kumar, Harpreet Kour and kuldeep wadman, Devinder Kour, under the supervision of Rajinder Mangotra, Basketball coach and Rahul Bakshi.
Meanwhile, Inter School District Level Competitions of District Jammu in the sports disciplines of football (Boys & Girls) & Swimming (Girls) under the age group of 14 and 17 years concluded here at GGM Science College and Heritage Public school respectively.
Khusha of Jodhamal Public School bagged gold, while Saanvi and Anushka of KC Public School clinched silver and bronze medal in girls Under-17 Back Stroke in Swimming at Heritage Public School.
The competitions were organised by Department of Youth Services & Sports under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General, Youth Services and Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director, while Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu was the Organising Secretary of the tournament.
The Inter Zone District Level tournament of District Kathua in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Cricket Badminton, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Football and Tennis Ball Cricket concluded at Police Lines Kathua.
A total of 855 players of different schools of district participated in the tournament organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rohit Khajuria and supervision of DYSSO Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj.
On the concluding day the competition, cricket tournament for under-17 years’ girls was held in which Kathua made 53 runs in the allotted 10 overs. Zone Billawar while chasing the target scored 41 runs, thus lost the match by 13 runs. Chahal of Billawar claimed 4 wickets.
The matches were officiated by Mohan Lal, Rakesh Kumar, Omkar Singh, Kajal Premi under the convenership of ZPEO Rajesh Kumar.
