DG Sports chairs meeting of Association heads

JAMMU, Apr 15: To give fillip to Sports and Games in the State of Jammu and Kashmir, which, otherwise, is striving hard to craft a space on the Country’s Sports Map, the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal chaired a meeting of the heads of various Sports Associations in the office of the Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of over 15 Sports Associations of the State which included J&K Handball Association, J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, J&K Gymnastics Association, Korfball Association, Roller Skating Association, Hockey J&K, Matsogi-Do Association, Chess Association, Veteran Athletic Association, Yoga Association, Silambam Association and Taekwondo Association etc.
The representatives of various Associations threw light on various issues with regard to promotion of sports and development of infrastructure.
The Director General Youth Services and Sports, recommended the suggestions made by the Associations and ensured them that a Sports Advisory Committee will be framed very soon and the members will be picked on the basis of their record and achievements.
With regard to development of infrastructure, some members proposed the availability of land at various blocks like Arnia, Jammu Cantt, Simbal Camp and Hiranagar etc and Mr Agarwal ensured them renovation and the development of the same at an earliest.
The verification of the documents of the national and international players was discussed in detail and the Director General Youth Services and Sports served strict instructions to the concerned authorities that the verification of the certificates of the players should be done instantly after the completion of the national level event so that the players are not left in the lurch.
Earlier, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Ved Prakash presented welcome address, who later-on presented vote of thanks also.
The meeting among others was attended by SM Bali (handball), Shiv Kumar Sharma (wrestling), Ajit Singh Wazir (gymnastics), Tarlok Singh (korfball), Madan Khajuria (skating), Rumal Singh (hockey), Gurdeep Singh (matsogi-do), Atul Kumar (chess), Tarseem Lal (veteran athletics), Mr Pathak (yoga), Kamaljeet Singh (Silambam) and PC Sharma (taekwondo).
