JAMMU, Feb 13: S K Mishra, DG Prisons, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Mishra briefed the Governor about issues relating to the adequacy of the existing number of jails in the State, matters relating to the day to day functioning of jails and the existing welfare programmes being run for the benefit of the prisoners.
Governor stressed the importance of every prison being run strictly as per prescriptions in the Jail Manual and the welfare of the prisoners being adequately looked after.
Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir also called on Governor.
Besides informing the Governor about the to-date status of the teaching programmes and conduct of the deferred examinations the Vice-Chancellor discussed issues relating to the academic administration of the University, particularly the role and responsibilities of the Deans of the recent restructuring which has led to the formation of Schools in place of Departments.
Governor reiterated his concern about ensuring that all decisions regarding issues relating to academic functioning must keep long term perspectives in view.
