Devika project 1st installment of Rs 30 cr released: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Nov 1: The National River Conservation Directorate in the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change today released the first Central installment of Rs.30 crore for Devika Project of Udhampur, under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP).
Disclosing this, Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he had received a copy of the letter conveying the sanction to the release of Grant-in-Aid of Rs. 30 crore as Central share in favour of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir for the project of “Pollution Abatement of River Devika at Udhampur town of J&K”. The letter further states that this is the first installment of the Central share for the aforesaid project under NRCP during the financial year 2018-19, he added.
While the total amount sanctioned for the project is Rs.186.74 crore, Dr Jitendra Singh informed that the Government of India will contribute Rs.168.66 crore, leaving just around Rs.18 crore from other sources. The tender for the project will be floated within next few weeks, he said, and the execution of work is likely to begin before the end of this year.
Pertinent to mention that the Government of India order also lays down the timeline for completion of the Devika project within 30 months i.e. by 31st of March 2021. Further, the progress of the implementation of the project shall be closely monitored by the Central Government as well as the State Government and it would be ensured that all the conditions are strictly adhered.
Meanwhile, in a related development today, Border Road Organization (BRO) began its two-day International Seminar on Bridges & Tunnels with the BRO Seminar Book displaying on its cover page, the photograph of the monumental bridge “Atal Setu” of Basohli.
Addressing the inaugural session of the seminar as chief guest, Dr Jitendra Singh said, over the years, the BRO and the Indian Army Engineers have distinguished themselves as the best technical experts in the construction of bridges and tunnels. He said, he felt particularly privileged to note that two of the recent monumental creations of the BRO happen to be located in his Lok Sabha constituency, one of them being the “Atal Setu” and the other being the “Chhattergalla Tunnel”, for which currently, the BEACONS is in the process of preparing DPR.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Devraj Anbu, DG BRO Lt. Gen. Harpal Singh and Engineer-in-Chief Lt. Gen. S.K. Srivastava.
