Development of border areas Govt’s priority: Chib

JAMMU, Dec 18:  Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services & Sports R S Chib on Tuesday said the development of border areas was the top priority of Government and various initiatives have been taken in this regard.
The Minister was speaking at a meeting convened to review the pace of on-going developmental projects being executed in the border tehsil R S Pura.
Mr. Chib reviewed status of projects taken-up under different   schemes and sectors and got first hand appraisal of the same. He directed the field functionaries to accelerate the pace of work and ensure timely completion   of all under-execution projects so that people get the desired benefits.
Issuing on-the-spot directions, he asked the concerned authorities to prepare Detailed Project Reports of public importance projects in consultation with Panchayat representatives so that the spirit of grass root level democratic institutions could be translated in reality.
The Minister asked to expedite the pace of work on the the vital roads of Badyal Qazian- Samadhi, Sai- Mula Chak, Mehmoodpur-Kotli Mian Fateh,  being constructed under NABARD. He said after completion these roads would help to improve communication facilities and give fillip to trade and commerce in these areas.
Mr. Chib said that the work on Sub-Divisional Revenue Complex R S Pura would be taken up soon as funds for the same  have already been allocated.
The Minister said that various playfields are being developed in the tehsil to provide added facilities to the youth, adding that more playfields would also be developed under Panchayat Yuva Khel Krida Abhiya (PYKKA) in the area. He said a wrestling pavilion is being constructed at Bana Singh Stadium, R S Pura, adding that an indoor table tennis court would also be created there.
The meeting was informed that against a total allocation of Rs. 87 lakh, an amount of Rs. 20 lakh has been disbursed to the BPL beneficiaries under Indira Awas Yojna so far. As many as 25 hand pumps and 20 High Mast Lights would be installed in various parts of the border area, the meeting was informed.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma, Sub- Divisional Magistrate, R S Pura, Suraj Parkash Rakhwal, Chief Planning Officer Harihar Dutt, Superintendent Engineer PWD (R&B) P L Bhushan, besides senior engineers of PDD, UEED, RDD and PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control were present in the meeting.
