IT Deptt organises awareness programme for tax deductors

JAMMU, Aug 31: An awareness programme for tax deductors was organised by the Income Tax Department in the auditorium in Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar.
The programme was organised under the guidance of R N Sahay, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K, Paresh Johri, Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS-1, Chandigarh and Manish Gupta, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, TDS, Ludhiana.
A three member team was deputed by CPC Vaishali for resolution of specific issues and queries of Government deductors. They educated the deductors on various issues related to tax deduction and uploading of quarterly e-TDS returns.
The deductors were given power point presentation regarding filing of various TDS return forms and correction thereof, wherever required. Specific queries raised by the tax deductors were resolved on spot by the visiting team.
Speaking on the occasion, Anita Thusu, Income Tax Officer, TDS Jammu stressed upon the deductors to comply to the mandatory filing of quarterly e-TDS returns and ensure timely filing of e-TDS returns to avoid levy of late fee under Section 234E.
She informed that the department was in possession of information that in many cases the deductors were not deducting taxes from salary at average rate in all the quarters but restricting the same to last quarter. She informed that in near future the department shall conduct surveys/ on spot verifications and any deductor found defaulting shall be liable to penal & other actions under the Income Tax Act.
