Demise of former CJI widely mourned

JAMMU, Dec 2: The demise of son of the soil and former Chief Justice of India Dr AS Anand has been widely mourned.
Minister for Law and Justice Abdul Haq Khan, in a condolence message, said that in the demise of Justice Anand the country has lost a great visionary legal luminary and a jurist  who always fought for the rights of the people. He said Justice Anand would be remembered for fighting for the rights of common masses.
Chairperson of State Accountability Commission (SAC), Justice BA Khan said that in Dr Anand’s death, the judiciary and legal fraternity has lost a stalwart who always contributed to the cause of justice. “His judgments in Nelabati and DK Basu cases, striking at police highhandedness and securing safeguards for arrested people will always stand out in judicial precedent besides reforms initiated by him to give new direction to judiciary”, Justice Khan said.
Former Union Minister Prof Saifuddin Soz said that Justice Anand’s death is a great loss to the Jammu and Kashmir. He offered deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that peace to the departed soul.
J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its President BS Slathia, condoled the demise of Justice Anand. The Bar members remembered him as not only a thorough gentleman of exception caliber, conviction, compassion but also as a professional who was an institution into himself and a lawyers friendly justice. They prayed for peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Dogra Sadar Sabha, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its President Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak also condoled the demise of former CJI. The members of the Sabha recalled Dr Anand’s significant judgments against custodial violence, torture and killings. They observed two minutes silence and offered prayers to Almighty God to rest the noble soul in peace.
Senior Advocate Mohinder Kumar Bhardwaj also expressed grief over the demise of former CJI.
