Jammu, Dec 28: DPS Jammu organized “Sadbhavana-Ek Pratigya, Shanti ki Aur”-Annual Sports Meet-2018. The chief guest on the occasion was Major General Sharad Kapoor, GOC, 26th Infantry Division and the Guest of Honour was Superintendent of Police, Jammu (North), Amritpal Singh (IPS). Abhinav Pandey, known for his international journalism for youth in India and abroad was the Special Invitee.
The programme commenced with the DPS song and a song on ‘Peace’ sung by the school choir. Principal, DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra presented the welcome note and enumerated the various achievements of the school in the last five years. This was followed by a March Past by the students of all five houses namely, Chenab, Ganga, Jhelum, Tawi and Yamuna. The Girls Pipe band of the school which accompanied the parade presented impressive formations by drummers and pipers which was appreciated and cheered by one and all.
Later, the Sports Captains-Raghav Singh and Purnima Gupta alongwith all the dignitaries lit the sports torch to formally begin the ceremony of Oath Taking. The balloons symbolizing joy, zeal and freedom were released by the dignitaries. Director of the school S.S Sodhi formally declared the Sports Meet open.
A drill presentation by around 350 students of class I, demos in Yoga, Rope Skipping, martial arts and self defence stole the limelight, while a spectacular Peace Dance performance by the Bharatnatyam dancers, skaters and gymnasts left the spectators spellbound.
The students of the school competed in various tracks and field events. The colourful races run by tiny-tots such as Big Fish Race, Ball Race, Duck Race, Frog Race, Crawl Race, Joker Race, Hop-Race, Carrot & Bunny Race stole everyone’s heart.
The other events included Shot-Put, Hurdle Race, Sack Race, 3 Legged Race, Lemon & Spoon Race, Rope-Skipping, 100 mts, 200 mts, 4 x 100 mts. Relay, Staff Race and a friendly Tug-of-War event between staff and students, which ended in a tie.
The chief guest and the guest of honour felicitated around 150 Sports Champions of the year who had excelled in various sports discipline at state, national and international levels. Distinguished alumni who have excelled in sports, namely Prabhjot Kour, who represented India in Tata Open India Badminton International Challenge held at Mumbai, Hiteshwar Singh, international player of Inline Roller Hockey and Roll Ball and recipient of National Child Award and Pranav Gupta who represented J&K state in Ranji Trophy were also felicitated by them.
The Overall Best House Trophy for the session 2018-19 was lifted by Ganga House amidst cheering by students in the closing ceremony. Abhinav Pandey addressed the gathering and stressed upon the ancient values of the country and urged the students to carry them forward in life. He also complimented the students and staff for showcasing such high standard sports event. Major General Sharad Kapoor stated that the sports meet is a learning experience to prepare students for healthy and competitive spirit in future.
Director, DPS Jammu, S.S Sodhi proposed the vote of thanks, while Ms. Meenu Gupta, Headmistress, DPS Jammu gave the vote of thanks on day two. The Sports Meet-2018 was formally declared closed by the Principal, DPS Jammu, Ruchi Chabra today.
