SRINAGAR, May 15: Various delegations and MLA Ganderbal today called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhawan here.
Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh, MLA Ganderbal apprised the Governor about the to-date status of ongoing developmental schemes in his constituency and urged him to intervene in expediting the construction work for Central University of Kashmir which is coming up at Ganderbal; increase accommodation facilities for pilgrims at Kheer Bhawani Shrine in Tulmulla; promote involvement of locals for providing facilities to pilgrims of Shri Amarnathji’s Yatra; ensure early start of the new Ganderbal Hydro-electric Power Project and issue directions for the local MLA being invited whenever a Minister visits his constituency.
The Governor assured that the issues raised would be taken up with the State Government.
A delegation comprising Mohd. Shafi Pandit, Chairman, Bedil International Foundation (BIF); Prof Qamar Gaffar, Secretary BIF and Prof. G.N. Khaki, Director, Centre of Central Asian Studies, Kashmir University apprised the Governor about the ongoing activities of the Centre of Central Asian Studies to nurture deeper understandings between India and countries of Central Asia, including Afghanistan and Iran.
To enhance and enlarge the existing ties the delegation solicited the Governor’s support for the establishment of a Research Centre on Silk Route Studies as an adjunct of the Centre of Central Asian Studies, Kashmir University. The Governor agreed to address the President of ICCR for the establishment of the proposed Research Centre.
A deputation of the teachers and staff of two Kashmir University Primary Schools at Anchar, Soura and Shanpora, Habak led by Maroof Hussain apprised the Governor about the uncertainty of their tenures and the severe hardships being faced by them.
The Governor assured the delegation that their grievances will be urgently taken up with the Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University.
A delegation of Jammu & Kashmir People’s Forum (J&KPF) led by its general secretary, M M Shuja apprised the Governor about various problems being faced by the Civil Society due to the continuing delay in provision of relief and rehabilitation to the flood affected people,
The delegation also apprised the Governor about the delay in rehabilitation of cottage and small industries for want of provision of soft loans; inadequate attention to problems of senior citizens; need for face-lifting of Srinagar city; non-disbursement of scholarships under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme; and delay in constitution of the State level Statutory Constitutional Boards and Commissions.
The Governor assured that the issues raised would be taken up with the State Government.
