Death toll in Kathua accident reaches 5

KATHUA, Aug 19: The death toll in Kathua truck accident has reached five as one more injured succumbed to injuries in GMC hospital, Jammu  last night.
A police spokesman said that Vinod Kumar, son of  Ram Lakhan, resident of UP and at present residing at Hatli Morh Kathua who was seriously injured in truck accident in Industrial area Kathua four days back, succumbed to injuries in GMC hospital Jammu. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities.
Three persons including a couple from Billawar, were killed in this accident on August 16 after a truck went out of control and over ran many people in the night.  One Ashok Kumar and his pregnant wife Neelu from Billawar and a factory worker Kishore Dass of  Orrisa were killed on the spot.
One Banarasi Dass, son of Samar Parsad of UP, succumbed to injuries in GMC hospital Jammu on August 17. Four others were admitted to hospital for injuries. The police seized truck No. JK02R/713 while its driver was still at large.
The locals had also lodged protest on the next day of the accident against administration and police alleging that police naka people were eye witness to the incident but failed to arrest the accused driver who jumped away from moving truck and escaped.
They also alleged that administration failed to remove congestion in the area.
