Death in road mishap: JU students protest for arrest of culprits

JAMMU, Nov 21:  Alleging failure of Police to identify the accused involved in road accident, in which a Law student was killed near Bikram Chowk last week, the Jammu University students held a strong protest demonstration on the campus, here today.
Shouting slogans against the State Government and the Police authorities, the protesting students also blockade the every busy road in front of the university gate and disrupted vehicular movement for around two hours.

They were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, involved in road accident, in which the Law Department student Abishek Kohli was killed.
A large number of students, mostly from the Law Department of JU, assembled near the Fountain Point and then marched towards the university main gate in the form of a procession. Amidst raising of slogans, the protesting students held a strong demonstration and outside near the main gate and then staged a dharna on the road.
Even as a Police team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station and senior officers immediately rushed to the spot, the protesting students refused to lift the dharna. Accusing the Police authorities of laxity in investigations and identification of the accused, they were demanding immediate arrest of the persons involved in the accident. They were also demanding installation of CCTV cameras on the roads so that vehicles involved in the accidents could be tracked.
The dharna continued for around two hours and no vehicle was allowed to either enter or come out of the university main gate during the protest.
The protesting students dispersed of with an announcement to further intensify their protest if the Police fails to arrest the accused within 15 days.
